NDTV Car India, Bike India Awards
It was something we had decided to do right from the initial concept stage of CAR INDIA - honour and celebrate the best in the Indian automotive world. All very good when doing a paper run in late May 2005 but thinking about an event of the magnitude it eventually turned out to be was daunting at its best. Heck, we would be just six issues old in January 2006, we surmised then, and having given away the better part of a year only because of our date of conception, we knew we had to play it just one way: right, straight and true.
The awards event has now completed six successful editions and the automotive industry now looks forward to the January 2012 event.
The Commercial Vehicle Awards
Commercial Vehicle hosts the Apollo-Commercial Vehicle Awards. It was instituted in 2010. The event, which turned two this year, is a brave attempt to recognise the efforts of a hugely fragmented industry, that receives little or no recognition at all, thanks to its lacklustre image. However, all that is changing with today's heavy vehicle makers ensuring that looks are as important.
For an Award, with 21 categories in all, and recognising an industry with more than a handful of macro segments. The various categories acknowledged OEMs, auto component makers, application builders, fleet operators and dealers among others. The jury, included domain experts and industry insiders, like Dominic Martin, Divisional Head Global Marketing-Commercial Vehicle Tyres at Apollo Tyres Limited, S.P. Singh., Senior Fellow of the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT), Sridhar Chari, Editor, Commercial Vehicle magazine and Smita Sengupta, chief correspondent, Commercial Vehicle magazine, carefully laid out their observations to ensure a fair judgement process.
Presented by Apollo Tyres, the associate sponsors for the event were Metric Global, Subros-Auto Air-conditioning Systems and Allison Transmission. Media partners for the event was Zee Business.
The Smart Photography Awards
Held annually, the Smart Photography Awards felicitate and fete the achievements of the leading lights in the imaging industry. With the eponymous print title quickly establishing itself as photography's defining resource for unbiased knowledge, came the idea of the awards: as an endeavour to extend out of the covers of a magazine into a live space where industry leaders, aficionados, vendors, consumers and critics et al could interact, share experiences and revel in each other's success.
Our experience over the Awards functions has substantially vindicated our belief that the photography space deserved a platform such as this to recognize and honour the often unsung achievements of the photographic industry. There can be no stronger an endorsement of this than the fact that over just two editions, the Smart Photography Awards have emerged as one of the most awaited events on the country's photography calendar. The event is sponsored by Uniross, a market leader in rechargeable batteries.
The Smart Photography awards has now completed four successful editions. These awards take place every year in January.
